Southern Rounds has it all this month onstage–a variety of powerhouse storytellers, songsmiths, and buzzing new artists, featuring Chris Canterbury, Vinnie Paolizzi, Alyssa Flaherty, and Jack McKeon, all joining Host Dave Kennedy on Nashville’s PREMIERE songwriter round at Analog.
Chris Canterbury
It’s not necessarily the song, it’s the story. That’s how North Louisiana native, now Nashville-based singer-songwriter Chris Canterbury has always approached songwriting. With a common vernacular and a coarse southern drawl, Chris writes and sings about life from a unique but oddly familiar point of view. Songs about liquor stores, truck stops, low-rent motels, and the grifters and transients that frequent them. He takes a critical look at some of the topics that often get discarded in the writing room, and he presents them as though they’re a casual kitchen conversation. Chris has toured the country for the better part of the last 2 decades, sharing the bill with the likes of Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and many, many others. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pool hall or a theater, a festival or a front porch, Chris’s live sound is the whiskey-laden narrative that anyone with a struggle can relate to. Vinnie Paolizzi
A Nashvillian by way of Philadelphia, Vinnie Paolizzi has spent the better part of the last decade in the songwriting trenches, making a name for himself as a rising singer-songwriter to watch. His abilities as a live performer have led him to various roles from playing guitar for tomorrow’s stars to playing his original music in the round with songwriting legend Dean Dillon. He released his self-titled debut album in 2023 and his songs have been recorded by Colby Acuff, Mackenzie Porter, Gabe Lee, Cole Phillips, Tyler Halverson, and more.

Alyssa Flaherty
At only seventeen, courageously uprooting herself from Annapolis, MD, Flaherty pursued Nashville in an effort to fully immerse herself in songwriting. She dedicated herself to mastering the guitar, honing her songwriting craft, and delivering captivating performances. Further validating her pursuit, Flaherty’s enchanting voice recently graced screens in Kevin Costner’s critically acclaimed series, Horizon: An American Saga where she rendered the timeless hymn, Amazing Grace while also sharing the stage with Costner’s band Modern West on select tour dates.
Accompanying her involvement in Costner’s Horizon series, Flaherty has introduced her artistry with the following releases Under The Influence, Little UGLY, and most recently Liquor With Cowboys.

Jack McKeon
A Nashville-based singer-songwriter with an honest, plainspoken vocal, an eclectic-roots sound, and a knack for bringing crystalline characters to life, Jack McKeon harbors a deep love for the written word. First inspired by literary music icons from Hank Williams and Guy Clark to Tom T. Hall and John Hartford, McKeon arrived in Nashville in 2021 and has since established a reputation for his own message-drive lyricism – a value which shows up in its full sonic serenity on his 2024 album debut, Talking to Strangers. Dave Kennedy (Host)
Dave Kennedy is a storyteller above all else, and it’s easy to see why. His songs paint a cinematic portrait of America as his characters journey through love, heartbreak, humor, sin, redemption, revenge, and perhaps even a few of the songwriter’s own footsteps along the way. Bringing these songs to life is a voice so soaring and powerful you can’t help but be swept away into his world by the end of the first chorus. He navigates his way through each story and each world with a dynamic presence of both strength and subtlety that appreciates both the peaks and the valleys, the highways and the backroads, the loves lost and lingering in his mind. It’s for all these reasons that Dave has a reputation as one of Nashville’s most respected songwriters and artists, and why artists like TRAVIS TRITT, RILEY GREEN, WHISKEY MYERS, DRAKE WHITE, LARRY FLEET, and others are eager to continue writing and performing with Dave Kennedy.
