Southern Rounds turns up the heat with an unforgettable night of stories and songs at ANALOG in Nashville on Wednesday, August 5. Acclaimed songwriters James LeBlanc, Phillip White, Angela Hacker, and Dylan LeBlanc join host Bay Simpson, with Kelby Ray on dobro, for an intimate evening that takes you behind the music.
Hear the stories behind songs recorded by Travis Tritt, Jason Aldean, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and more, as these celebrated writers share the inspiration, the creative process, and the moments that shaped their careers. From chart-topping hits to life on the road as family, get an up-close look at the people and stories behind these hit songs.
ABOUT JAMES LEBLANC
Singer-songwriter James LeBlanc was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. James picked up the guitar at age seven, inspired by his father, James, Sr. By the time James was 18, he knew he wanted to make a living in the music business. After many years of struggles, trials, and tribulations, James finally got an opportunity when he was “discovered” by Rick and Rodney Hall. They were and still are the proprietors of FAME Enterprises in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. James signed a production agreement and a publishing contract with FAME. Soon thereafter, he began getting songs recorded by the likes of Martina McBride, Bryan White, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Thompson Square, etc. James co-wrote the hit song “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” for Travis Tritt. He also co-wrote the hit “Relentless” for Jason Aldean and the hit “Learning How to Bend” for and with Gary Allan. James’ songs have been on records that have sold over 25 million copies.
ABOUT PHILLIP WHITE
The road to songwriter ‘stardom’ can take various forms, and for Phillip White, it seemingly took the ‘short route.’ Born in Nashville but raised in a town nearby, the writer of Reba McEntire’s “I’m A Survivor” was hired as a manager of a publishing company after he graduated from high school. Inspired by Paul Overstreet to write, it wasn’t long before Phillip was writing with his idol. Shortly after that, Phillip was writing with renowned songwriter Roger Murrah, who eventually offered Phillip a songwriting staff job in the mid-1990s. It has been White’s time as a writer with Murrah Music Group that saw him bloom into a ‘known’ commodity.
In 2000, a song that Phillip wrote with D. Vincent Williams was placed on Rascal Flatts’ debut self-titled record. That song, “I’m Movin’ On,” became the group’s first No. 1, and eventually won both writers the Academy of Country Music Song Of The Year accolades. Among the songs from Phillip’s catalog are Neal McCoy’s Top 10 hit “Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On,” Reba’s Top 10 hit “He Gets That From Me,” Blake Shelton’s Top 10 hit “Nobody But Me,” Trent Willmon’s hit “On Again Tonight,” Scotty McCreery’s single “The Trouble With Girls,” and cuts on records by artists like Gary Allan, Scotty McCreery, Neal Coty, George Strait, Blackhawk, The Blue Dogs, Chris LeDoux, Brian McComas, Rachel Proctor and Kevin Sharp, Tanya Tucker, Chalee Tennison and Kenny Rogers. With a steady pen writing top hits, Phillip White should continue to write hits for years to come.
ABOUT ANGELA HACKER
Angela Hacker was born and raised in LaGrange, Alabama. The 4th of 5 children born to Harty and Susan Hacker. She started singing when she was a little girl, using a hairbrush for a microphone. “Growing up in the country, there wasn’t much to do, but there were always instruments lying around.” Her father, Harty, was a professional singer and guitar player, and her older sisters played and sang as well. Fast forward to 2007 when she auditioned for the TV show “Nashville Star.” She won the talent show and released a record that year on Warner Bros. Records. Since then, she has continued to write, play, and sing anywhere and everywhere she can. “I love to perform live! I feel like it’s what I was born to do!”
ABOUT DYLAN LEBLANC
Dylan LeBlanc is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who often finds himself flirting with the edge — or “dancing on a razor,” as he calls it — as it is all he has ever known. A vagabond since he was a little boy, tossed between Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama, LeBlanc thrives on the precipice, never staying in one place for too long. It is that nomadic spirit that drew him not only to a life as a touring musician, but also to the beast that titles his newest record: ‘Coyote.’
BAY SIMPSON (HOST)
Bay Simpson is a singer/songwriter from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Raised up around the studio and born a performer, Bay could already be considered a veteran in his mid 20s. His first break as a songwriter came at the ripe age of 20 when Kid Rock recorded and released one of his songs entitled “Never Enough”. After years of fronting his country rock band “Outlaw Apostles” and opening for artists such as Dwight Yoakam and Jamey Johnson, Bay is finally coming into his own as a solo artist. Releasing his debut single, “Too Old For This”, on January 31st, 2025, Bay Simpson is set to begin carving his own legacy one song and one show at a time.
